OBITUARY:
Edward Clarence Redding, son of Samuel and Letitia Redding, was born August 5, 1866, in Wyoming, Stark County, Illinois, and departed from this life at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 11 days, on October 16, 1952, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Barnett, near Goodrich, Kansas. In his youth he moved with his parents to Iowa, then to Nebraska, later setting near Goodrich, Kansas. It was at the then popular literaries and singing schools that he met Sopha Byerley, who later became his bride. To this union eleven children were born, four of whom, Minnie Ethel, Gerald Elmer, Letitia and Effie, preceded him in death.

His young manhood was spent as a United Brethren Minister at Mound City, Kansas. Later he was employed at Parker by the M.K. & T. Railroad as a foreman, holding this position until his retirement following an accident about twenty years ago.

He was a member of the Parker Methodist Church, where he taught the Men's Bible class for several years and always promoted those activities which he felt were for the progress of the community. He was made a Master Mason on May 28, 1920, and he was Past Master of the Parker Masonic Lodge which he felt added much to his fullness of life. His continued faith in God was apparent in his mode of life, having great belief in the nearness of the spirit of God to the souls of men.

After the death of his wife in 1940 he lived at his home until ill health made it necessary for him to live in the homes of his children. He endeared himself greatly to his children by his utmost patience and his desire to adapt himself to their way of home life.

He leaves to mourn his passing seven children, Alva W. of Iola; Mrs. Ivy Tebbel, Tampa, Fl; Mrs. Georgia McBratney, Humboldt, Kansas; Mrs. Lena Barnett, Centerville, Kansas; and Mrs. Juanita Moore, Mrs. Eulalia Cox, Mrs. Lucille Ludwig of Osawatomie; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His two sisters, Mrs. Anna Besser and Mrs. Ida Culberson of Parker also survive him. He will be missed by a host of friends.

Funeral services was held at the Parker Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon, October 19, the Rev. William I. Hastie, paster of the First Methodist Church, Osawatomie and the Rev. J. C. Campbell, Pastor of the Parker Church officiating. The Masons Lodge of Parker No. 341 had charge of the grave services. Interment was in Goodrich Cemetery.

The pall bearers were Dick Montavon, Kenneth Redding, Vaughn Moore, Jerry Moore, Ford Masters, grandsons and Willie Richardson, Donald Burnett sand "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Down the Valley" and "One by One". Service under the direction of the Montanye Funeral Home.
