Reverend George Emory Butler was a chaplain with the 3rd Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army during the War Between the States. After the war he married Julia Winfred Moores of Arkansas. They had nine children many of whom lasted well into the twentieth century. He was an ordained minister of the M E Church and until his death was active in the Holiness movement.
