John was the son of Harvey Birge and Sarah Billingsley. He was the brother of Martha Jane, Thomas Patrick, William Harvey, James O., Sally Mary and Matilda.

He married three times:
1) Sarah 'Sallie' Tunnell on May 31, 1885 in Columbus, Johnson County, Missouri. They had two children, John Thomas and William Oscar.
2) Alice Snoddy on July 17, 1891. They had 6 children, George Washington, Lillie, Mary Rosetta, Charlie Greer, Zora Lillian and Elzie 'Bud'.
3) Winnie Murphy.

Courier Democrat, March 13, 1924
John Henry BIRGE of London, Ark., was born in Missouri on December 3, 1860. He came to Arkansas about 35 years ago. He was taken ill on March 4th and died March 9th, of paralysis. He was interred at the White Church, Rev. Patterson of Russellville conducting the funeral.
Besides his wife he leaves five sons, three daughters, a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
