Rev. Edmund Kimball Alden, D. D., pastor of Phillips Congregational Church, South Boston, Mass., son of Ebenezer, fitted for College at Randolph Academy; gr. at Amherst College in 1844; was a teacher in Williston Seminary the following year; entered the Theological Seminary, Andover, in 1845; gr. in 1848; became an Abbott resident; preached in various places, West Springfield, Worcester, Pine Street Church, Boston, and others; was ordained pastor of the Congregational church in Yarmouth, Me., 2 Jan. 1850; was dismissed by advice of council Feb. 1, 1854; installed pastor of the Congregational church in Lenox, Mass., Nov. 15, 1854, where he remained until Aug. 21, 1859, when he accepted a call from Phillips Church, So. Boston, and was installed pastor Sept. 21,1859, and still (1866) continues in that office.

He received the degree of D. D. at Amherst College in 1866. On the 25 Apr. 1850, he m. Maria, dau. of Dea. Gershom Hyde, of Bath, Me., b. 14 Apr. 1823.
