Lewis H was with Co C MO Inf under John Phelps. The regiment was organized in the fall of 1861 and discharged in Apr & May of 1862. They participated in the battles of Pea Ridge, AR and Mtn Grove Seminary, MO. He served 6 mo in Civil War Co C. During the war he became extremely sick. He went home on a 25 day furlough he never fully recovered. He was left disabled. He could not do manual labor for the rest of his life.
