JEWEL BOONE GUNTER was born to Claude and Pearl Boone August 10, 1919 in Elm Mott, Texas. She went home to be with the Lord, December 2, 2004. She graduated from Lexington High School, received a Bachelor of Education from Baylor University and a Master of Education from University of Houston. She spent many years teaching, including a time at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Mrs. Gunter and her husband, Johnie, were members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Her love and interest was in the Woman's Club of Houston. She wrote and published a book about the 100-year history of the organization. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Edward Hamilton, and brothers James, Carroll and Hal Boone. Jewel was married to Johnie Gunter for twelve years until his death in 1996. She is survived by her sisters, Agnes Heffington, Ava Hedstrom, stepchildren Diane Hodge, Carol Snell, John Gunter, numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday, December 4, 2004, 2:00 pm in the chapel of Heights Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Jewel.
