PORTLAND -- June Mary Bowman, 88, of Portland, died on Thursday, April 4, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 9, 1923, in Portland, the daughter of Leo A. and Frances D. (Feeney) Cole. She attended Cathedral Grammar School and was a 1942 Cathedral High School graduate.

June married John E. Bowman in March, 1946.
She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church.

In her clerical career, June worked in the office of Porteous Mitchell & Braun Co., Civil Service Appointee Fort Preble (during World War II), and the City of Portland Assessor's and Treasurers Departments retiring in 1975.
June was a member of Daughters of Isabella, Circle No. 480; Past President of Cathedral High School Alumna and President for the Cumberland County Regional Square Dance Club.

June enjoyed golfing with her husband at Riverside Golf Course for many years. She also enjoyed many years of Square and Round Dancing. Her greatest joys in life were her husband of 66 years, her children, her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

June was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly Cole and Delores F. Cole Bowman.

Surviving are her husband John of Portland; daughter Bonnie M. Lundquist and her husband Arnold H. of Bar Harbor, a son John Edward Jr. and wife Shelia G. Bowman of Portland; a sister, Virginia B. Remick of California; grandchildren, John E. 3rd and his wife Deborah, Stephen, Christopher and his wife Katie, Eric and his wife Allison Lundquist, Michael and Caroline Noblet; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland.
