STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- George Schweizer, 66, of Port Richmond, a loving son, brother and uncle remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, died Saturday in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Port Richmond, he was brought to Great Kills as a boy. He also lived in West Brighton before returning to Port Richmond as an adult.
Mr. Schweizer attended McKee High School.
He worked as a mail clerk as a young man.
Mr. Schweizer loved building model airplanes, going to hobby shops, and spending time with his family, particularly on holidays.
"George was very loved by a lot of people. He had a sense of humor that was so funny," said his sister, Geraldine Poldrugo. "He will always be remembered."
Surviving Mr. Schweizer, along with his sister, Geraldine, are his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Peter Stio; his brothers, Ronald and Joseph, and his longtime companion, Rose DeFalco.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church, Bulls Head. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
