Asa was the son of John H. and Rachel (Olney) Vincent. He married Mary Ann Lefever on 20 Jan 1848 in Washington Co., OH.

They had at least six children, all born in OH:

- Samuel T. Vincent (1849-1919)
- Mary Alice Vincent Anderson (1856-1910)
- George Asa Vincent (1858-1939)
- Asa Wellington Vincent (1860-1937)
- Fannie Cecelia Vincent (1863-1892)
- Daniel Grant Vincent (1868-1951)

Asa served in the Civil War as a captain in Co K, 161st OH Infantry. He enlisted in Company K, Ohio 161st Infantry Regiment on 09 May 1864 & mustered out on 02 Sept 1864 at Camp Chase, OH.
