Zaphod, was an African Meerkat from South Africa's Kalahari.
Zaphod was the dominate male of the Whiskers with Flower as his mate and dominate female.
[Flower's title was "FLOWER Of The Kalahari." Flower was the most famous meerkat and her parents were "Holly" and "Argon" (or Kine?) who started the whiskers.]
"A very special meerkat, Zaphod was honoured in a very special way: His remains were not cremated, but buried in the Kalahari, under a shepherd's tree in what must be one of the most scenic locations in the KMP reserve: on a dune overlooking not only the farmhouses and the long-term Whiskers range, but also the region that has been Vivian territory many years ago. Even his birth burrow can be seen from the burial site... A simple wooden sign saying "Zaphod 1998 - 2011" now marks the spot."
Info from: Friends of the Kalahari Meerkat Project
There is not a Grave yard or cemetery at the Kumruman River reserve for the meerkats, and Zaphod is the only meerkat not cremated, but buried in the Kalahari, under a shepherd's tree.
The series told the story of the Whiskers, one of more than a dozen families of meerkats in the Kalahari Desert being studied as part of the Kalahari Meerkat Project, (or KPM), a long-term field study research project focused on the study of the ecological causes and evolutionary consequences of the cooperative nature of meerkats.
