The Guymon and Goodwell vicinities lost one of their oldest settlers in the death of George Whitfield Buchanan who passed away at his home five miles east and two miles south of Goodwell, last Saturday at 2 o'clock in the morning. Mr. Buchanan's death was probably caused by a paralytic stroke, although his health had been failing for some time. He was over sevently one years of age, having been born near Knoxville, Tenn., in 1853. In 1882 he married to Miss Celia Horn at Mountain Home, Arkansas, and later moved to Memphis Tennessee and from there to Texas county in 1905, so that he has been a resident of and witnessed the rapid growth of this county for nearly twenty years. Mr. Buchanan is survived by his aged wife, Mrs. Celia Buchanan, and by several sons and daughters, Mrs. Roy M. Smith, Don Buchanan, and Harry Buchanan of Guymon; Mrs. Arther Camp of Goodwell and Mrs. Floyd Thompson of Wellington, Texas.
Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. S. W. Franklin of the Goodwell Methodist Church conducting the services. The Goodwell Men's Quartette sang touching hymns and friends paid their tribute in the many and beautiful floral offerings. The severe storm kept many from attending the funeral.
