Hickory – Mrs. Alma Phillips Barrier, 89 of Hickory, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 3, 1922 in Avery County, North Carolina to the late Eli Phillips and Sarah Phillips. She was a member of Huntington Hills Church of God.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Forrest Lee Barrier, granddaughter Elizabeth Barrier Rhoney, grand son-in-law Joe George, sisters Dot Cornett, Florence Weatherman and brother Duard Phillips.
She is survived by her son, N. Lee Barrier and his wife, Peggy, two daughters; Peggy Barrier Sigmon and her husband Kearney and Judy Barrier Abernethy and her husband Tony, four granddaughters; Beth Sigmon McMahan and her husband Eddie, Maida Sigmon Cameron and her husband John, Tracy Abernethy George, and Gina Abernethy Welch and her husband Troy, two grandsons; Jeremy Abernethy and his wife Amanda, Neil L. Barrier Jr. and his wife Adele. Mrs. Barrier is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren; Sarah Beth McMahan, Virginia McMahan, Catherine McMahan, Blake Cameron, Grayson Cameron, Adrienne Cameron, Jack Cameron, Kenny George, Jason George, Alan George, David George, Ashley George, Belle George, Emery Welch, Madelyn Welch, Addie Barrier, Drew Rhoney, and Davis Rhoney. Sisters; Welda Aldridge, Lois Robinson, Christine Townsend and brother Bill Phillips.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at Huntington Hills Church of God in Hickory, NC with Pastor Chris Music officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. Burial will be on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Barrier Family Cemetery in Jonas Ridge on Donald Barrier Road.
