SALEM- Vivian Achterberg Schmidt, 78 of Salem, Wis., passed away Saturday, July 20, 1996 at Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Wis. She was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Portage, Wis., the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Schleicher She attended schools in Portage moving to Union Grove, Wis. and then Salem in 1957. Vivian was a licensed beautician in her early days and then later a home maker. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bristol, Wis. On Sept. 2, 1972 she married Alfred Schmidt in Bristol Wis. Survivors include: her husband Alfred three daughters Karen DeKelver in North Carolina, Christine (Jim) Davis of Juda, Wis., and Thea (Steve) Buholzer of Monroe, Wis., a stepson Robert (Louise) Schmidt of Salem, Wis., a stepdaughter Arlene (Roger) Runkel of Burlington, Wis., 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her first husband Floyd Achterberg, in 1970, her son Lawrence Achterberg, a stepson Lawrence A Schmidt, two sisters Barbara Pike and Marian Kerndt and a brother Donald Schleicher. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, July 23, 1996 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bristol Wis. Interment will be in Welch Cemetery Caledonia Township Columbia Co. Wis., at 3 pm. Friends may call at the church only Tuesday at 9:30 am, until time of services. Arrangements are by the Strang Funeral Home, Antioch, Ill.
