John Hans Anderson married Nellie H. Swanson (1849-1944) in 1873 in their native country of Sweden. He came to Afton, MN in 1885, buying land belonging to Mr. J. P. Furber, owner of the rope ferry and first grain silo and elevator in Afton. They had six children: Antone Gothfrid (1876-1969), Victor (1879-1962), Henning (1883-1885), Arthur William (1888-), Hjalmar (1891-1936) and Henry (1893-1894). John was a berry farmer; he also served on the town board for four years, and two terms on the school board of Dist. #66.
