Linell Emory Ayer, 85, of Ehrhardt, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Colston Branch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Ayer was born November 24, 1922, in Barnwell County and was a son of the late Hartwell Malone Ayer and Arlena Zissett Ayer. He was a farmer and a retired agent with Durham Life Insurance Company. Mr. Ayer was a member of Colston Branch Baptist Church, where he was a past Deacon and served in various other capacities. He was a member of the Young at Heart and the Golden Age Club and loved to work in his garden.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Christobell Still Ayer; children, Barbara A. Wright of Ehrhardt, Larry Ayer and his wife, Debbie, of Gilbert, Janet A. Horne and her husband, Rex, of Frisco, Texas and Cheryl A. Rentz of Hampton; sisters, Irene A. Foley of Shreveport, La. and Marilyn A. Holmes of Bamberg; eight grandchildren, Clayton Wright and his wife, Susan, Brent Hundley, Lyndsey Dobson and her husband, Brant, Eric Horne and his wife, Sari, Joey Ayer and his wife, Mellisa, Whitney Rentz and his wife Cristin, Angela Cribb and her husband, Matt, and Ashley Horne; 11 great grandchildren, Taylor, Casyn and Ryland Dobson, Kaitlyn Myers, Kevin and Kylie Wright, Parker and Jayse Rentz, Joshua and Nicklaus Horne, Brooke Cribb; a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna A. Hunley; brother, Arcnell Ayer and sister, Chloe A. Hicks.
