Rachael G. (Kemp) Hartwell, 79 of South Street, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield, after a brief illness.
Rachael was born in Colrain on July 30, 1932, the daughter of Earl and Emma (Lively) Kemp.
She was employed at The Book Press in Brattleboro, Vt., the Four Leaf Clover, Streeter's Store and Stoney B Acres. Over the years she also drove school bus, volunteered at the elementary school and the Cushman Library.
Rachael was especially known for her flower gardens, especially the peonies. She enjoyed camping trips to Maine with her husband and children and trips to the Penn. Amish country.
Rachael was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harold E. Hartwell Jr. She is survived by her six children, Donald and his companion Eleanor ""Cookie"" Allen of Vernon, Vt., Linda R. Bridges and her husband Don of Fayetteville, N.Y., Lou Ann Holt and her husband John of Queensbury, N.Y., Debra Holt and her husband George ""Sonny"" of Randolph, Vt., Douglas and his companion Joyce Rowe of Unity, N.H., and Lisa Hamlin and her husband Steve of Salem, N.H.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by her brothers, Earle, Reginald and Morris, and sisters, Eleanor, Marion, Sybil and Mildred.
Funeral services will be Saturday (4-21-12) at 11 a.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield. The Rev. Raymond Medeiros, pastor of the United Church of Bernardston, will officiate. Burial will follow in West Branch Cemetery in Colrain.
There will be a calling hour from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
