Family records have the date of birth for James as November 28, 1842- not 1844. He was 8 years old on the 1850 census. Apparently, at some point over the years, he began to use the 1844 date which is seen on his marker.
However, he had a brother Samuel born September 2, 1844, and a brother William born November 20, 1845, and a brother Thomas H. born January 2, 1848, and a sister Jane Anne born November 2, 1850.
