Geraldo O. Hodge Sr., 93 , of Milton, husband of Anita (Malone) Hodge, transitioned peacefully July 20, 2012, at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston. Funeral services at Jubilee Christian Church, 1500 Blue Hill Ave., Boston, Friday, July 27, 2012. Geraldo O. Hodge, Sr., 93, of Milton, MA, peacefully transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was the husband for 47 years to Anita (Malone) Hodge.
Born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands in 1918, Geraldo was fearless and a lover of life. He grew up in the warm climate of the caribbean, but yearned to explore what life had to offer. He migrated to New York, City in 1939 and was drafted into the service in 1941. He served his country overseas in the South Pacific (Australia, and Okinawa, Japan) before receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.
Upon returning back New York City, Geraldo enjoyed his time back as a civilian and explored many business ventures. He then worked for the New York City transit as a bus driver, General Motors Assembly Plant as a car assembler, and the Brooklyn Ship Yard as a pipe fitter.
In 1964, he married Anita Malone and moved back to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and was very involved in the political arena while he worked as a supervisor for the department of Public Works until his retirement in 1981. Upon his retirement, he stayed active in business, supported his wife and grandson, and was a fixture for many of his family members with his wealth of knowledge of family history. Illness required him to move to Boston where he spent the last few years of his life. His legacy and presence will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Anita (Malone) Hodge, sons Geraldo O. Hodge Jr. of Boston, Gilbert W. Hodge of New York, daughters, Merle Hodge Dennis of New York, Juliet Hodge Ortiz of New York, Yvonne Hodge May of New York, Geraldine A. Hodge of Boston, and Gwendolyn M. Hodge of New York, sisters, Audrey Gory of New York, and Edris Braithwaite of Virgin Islands, brother Rudy Schneider of South Carolina, several grand children, great-grand children, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family members to numerous to mention.
