Rites Held For 3 Weiner Girls Killed In Crash

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon and this morning for the three Weiner High School seniors who were killed Friday night in a two car collision on Highway 39 near Fisher.

The four teenagers who were injured are still hospitalized in St Bernard's Hospital.

Services for Victoria (Vicky) Schwarz, 17, of Weiner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hugo Schwartz were held this morning at 9 o'clock at St Anthony's Catholic Church in Weiner with Rev Father Bernard Bolds officiating. Burial was in Catholic Cemetery in Weiner with Langford's Mortuary in charge.

Services for Barbara Sue Looney, 17, of Weiner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Looney were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist Church in Weiner with Rev John Noble officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral rites for June Smith, 17, of Weiner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel A Smith, were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Fisher with Rev Ralph Eiggenhorn officiating. Langford's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Martha Wilson, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Aubrey Wilson of Fisher, who was critically injured in the crash, regained consciousness yesterday. Her right leg was severed; she suffered a broken jaw, internal injuries and cuts and bruises.

Also hospitalized are Joan Dennis, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs R T (Turner) Dennis of Fisher, who suffered lacerations, bruises and shock; Jimmy Block, 18, and Dorsey Block, 16, sons of Mr and Mrs Willie Block of Waldenburg. Jimmy Block suffered head injuries, injuries to the right knee and cuts and brusies. Dorsey Block suffered head injuries, severe lacerations and bruises.

The five girls were occupants of a car being driven north toward Waldenburg on Highway 39 by Barbara Sue Looney, while the boys were riding in a car being driven south toward Fisher on Highway 39 by Jimmy Block.

State Trooper Sid Riley said immediately before the accident, Barbara Looney apparently lost control of the car she was driving and at the time of the collison, it was skidding side-ways in the west lane of traffic.

The Block car hit this car in which the girls were riding broad-sides, knocking it 33 feet along the side of the road to the shoulder and into a tree, the trooper related.
