The son of Hiram Brandon and Catherine Dunlap, he married Margaret 'Maggie' Louise Toothman, May 27, 1899, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia.

Census records show birth year about 1873.
The 1910 census shows them residing in Benwood, he is a water tender at cokes works and they had 5 children, 3 living: Charles W., Lessie and John.
His World War I Draft Registration gives a birth date of August 11, 1875, however cemetery record shows 1871and stone had 1872. ?

In 1920, they are living in Belmont, Ohio, and he is a millwright at steel mill.
After that, John and Maggie live in Mingo Junction, Steubenville Twp, Jefferson County, OH and he is an oiler in steel mill.

His death certificate indicates he died in a car accident on Rte 250 near Tappan Lake. His residence was Bellaire, Belmont, OH, he worked at Rodefer National Glass Works Co.
