Miss Nellie Brown
Funeral services for Miss Nellie Brown were held Tuesday, April 28, at 2 p.m. from Reid's Chapel. The Rev. C. F. Waterman officiated at the services. Music was furnished by Nell McPherron, soloist and Miss Phoebe McCoy, accompanist.
Casket bearers were A. F. Standiford, H. C. Altekruse, Paul Criswell, Morris Moore, M. K. Moore and Ralph McPherron. Flower ladies were Miss Winnifred Johnson and Mrs. Harold Strand.
Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Nellie Gertrude Brown, daughter of Thomas Hartshorn and Mary Matilda Brown, was born June 4, 1885, in Glenwood, Iowa, and passed away April 26, 1959 at Malvern, Iowa at the age of 74 years. She being the last of four children.
Nellie became an invalid at the age of three and it became necessary to educate herself at home, with the help of her parents, and sister, Hattie.
Nellie played the violin and piano and gave lessons on both for many years. She also helped her sister at times in the courthouse. In her younger years she passed her time painting and drawing.
She leaves to mourn her death, eight nieces and one nephew, and other relatives and friends.
She had a loving nature and will be missed by all who knew her.
