She was preceded in death by her son Arthur Ernest Beard, her husband Carl L Beard, Granddaughter Treah Marie Spencer, sisters Lucille Everest and Patricia Hildreth, brothers Arthur H. McCartney Jr. and William McCartney.
She is survived by her children: Kevin E. Beard (Nancy Morelli), Kathleen E. (Kim) Jenkins, Lois E. (Michael) Sealy, Barbara E. (Kenneth) Sealy, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She graduated in 1944 from Lake Odessa H.S. and received her Med. Tech certification in Minnesota.
Member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Ledge, and was UMW president for over 20 years. She did dozens of jobs at the FUMC, organized the Community Meal, and was in choir.
She worked in medicine in Ionia and Lake Odessa.
In 1952 she married Carl Beard then moved to Grand Ledge, in 1954. Following the deaths of her mother and husband, Mary began to travel the world. Her health failed following a stroke 4 years ago.
She peacefully passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012.
A memorial service was held July 28, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Ledge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Community Meal program.
