A rural Wapello mother of four was apparently killed instantly late Monday night when her northbound auto slammed head-on into a Burlington Truck Lines double-bottom trailer rig on US 61 three miles north of here.

Driver of the truck, Gerald D. Morgan, 58, told highway patrolmen and sheriff's deputies thtat the oncoming car driven by Edith Anna Ashby, 29, was swerving along the road as he came down a hill and was on the wrong side of the pavement when the crash occurred.

Th Moline, Ill. truck driver, hauling two trailers of miscellaneous freight, said he tried to slow down but was unable to miss Mrs. Ashby's auto. Force of the impact threw the truck into the ditch, but Morgan escaped unhurt.
