Author. Creamer was an American sportswriter and editor who was one of the first hired on the staff of Sports Illustrated in August 1954 as a senior editor, where he also wrote the weekly Scorecard section of the magazine. He also wrote for The New York Times. In 1974, he authored one of the most definitive biographies of Babe Ruth, 'The Legend Comes to Life'. Other books he wrote were the Casey Stengel biography 'Stengel: His Life and Times', and 'Baseball in '41: A Celebration of the Best Baseball Season Ever'. Although retired from SI in 1984, he occasionally wrote retrospective articles for the weekly publication. In 1994, he helped write and narrate Ken Burns' noted documentary series 'Baseball'. Creamer was a recipient of the 2012 Henry Chadwick Award from the Society for American Baseball Research.
