In 1859, Robert moved with his parents and siblings to Fayette County, Georgia. He grew up farming, and married Sarah Frances Crane on February 3, 1880, in Clayton County, Georgia. They have 3 children: 2 boys and 1 girl. Robert continued farming in Fayette County until he became a minister.

We tender the family of our deceased brother our sympathy and condolence. Our brother was born in 1854, baptized into the church in 1873, and was ordained in 1883. In 1889, he became pastor of Mt. Zion church, and died Sept. 11th, 1890.
