U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Cumberland University Tennessee, in 1872, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1873 and commenced to practice law in Franklin, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1877-78). In 1889, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. After leaving Congress, he was elected a judge of the seventh Kentucky circuit in 1897 and served until his death at age 52.
