At the age of 24 William was drafted into the Civil War and served nine months.
After the war he went to Nebraska and settled on a homestead in Johnson county.
He came to Phillips county, Kansas, in the year of 1882, and moved onto the C. D. Heath homestead, and lived there until the time of his death.
The funereal services were conducted by Rev. J. E. Rinebarger, of Phillipsburg.
