Agnes Mathes, daughter of Valentine Mathes and Agnes Kuyper passed away at her home 609 East 1st. st. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 1956 at the age of 80 years one month and 3 days. She was born on a farm north of Pella, Ia. July 27, 1876. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Henry Van Rheenen of Pella and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sisters and one brother; Mary, Mrs. Peter Rykhoek, Katherine, Mrs. Henry Krumm and John N. Mathes. She was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Pella.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 4th, 1956. Prayer services for the family were held in the Chapel of the 1st. Reformed Church at 1:00 p.m. followed by services in the church at 1:30 p.m. The Dr. A. Haverkamp was in charge with burial being made in Graceland Cemetery. Verlan Van Rheenen sang two numbers: "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden" accompanied by Katherine De Koning. Casket bearers were nephews: Valentine Mathes, William Mathes, William Van Rheenen, Valentine Van Rheenen, Phillip Krumm, Valentine Krumm.
