Marjorie N. "Monk" Bruton Ayer Barnes, 90, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in Farmington, New Mexico.

She was born May 31, 1921, in Snyder, Texas, to Joseph Henderson Bruton and Sadie Irene (Meek) Bruton. Monk graduated from Abilene Texas High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University.

For many years she was a member of the Raspberry Ridge Ladies Golf Association and the Lynden Community Center. She attended the Lynden United Methodist Church.

Monk loved playing bridge, helping at church (especially feeding the Lions Club), helping at the senior center and working with the flowers in her yard. She loved visiting her family and was always up for a trip to sightsee.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Kivie Ayer in 1974 and C.A. "Doc" Barnes in 1996, her stepson, Tommie Barnes, and her son-in-law, Mike Lahman.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2012, at the Everson building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 503 Everson Road, Everson, Washington. A private burial for the family will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lynden Community Center, 401 Grover, Lynden, WA 98264.
