Considered a pioneer, he moved to Texas in a covered wagon after his family's plantation was destroyed during the Civil War. Settling in Rockwell, Texas, he owned a farm and fathered 11 children with his wife, Willie Elizabeth. Among his many descendants are Sammie Lee, Ernestine and Betty Jane Tucker (granddaughers) of the successful singing group of the 1940s, The Tucker Sisters.
