Born to parents Marguerite N. Graham and Edward Phillip CHURCHILL in Kansas City, 1910. The family soon removed to Manhatten, New York where Edward started an import/export business. Marguerite became interested in drama classes in school and wound up doing small parts in Broadway shows in New York.

In 1929 Hollywood producer Raul Walsh saw somthing he liked in Churchill, who was fresh off of a Broadway production and he hired her to star opposite John Wayne in an 1930 EPIC MOTION PICTURE "THE BIG TRAIL".
