Born on the family farm near Akin, IL the second of four children of Dalton and Minnie Zeffie Lee Hollaway, she married Vecal Peyton Lager. Peyton died July 1973. They had two daughters who survive.

She married Ronald Pickard in 1991. He died 1999.
