Matilda McClure was born 1839 to Stephen McClure and Sara Smith McClure. She grew up near Quitman Arkansas(then Conway County) now Faulkner.On the 1860 census , she is 22, single and still living at home. She married John Bennett, son of George Washington Bennett and Nancy R. Williams Bennett, on December 20, 1860 in Conway County, Arkansas. The marriage was performed by Methodist Protestant Minister, James M. Scarlett. On the 1880 census , John and Matilda are living in Cadron Township, Van Buren County. Living with them are children,Nancy, James, Samuel, Newton, Edward, and Carroll. Also, Matilda's half sister, Alma McClure Baley age 23, a widow. John and Matilda moved to Milam County Texas sometime between 1880 and 1885. Matilda died there in 1885 and is buried there, but as of now, we have no name of the cemetery.
