Marine Lance Cpl. Jonathan W. Collins, 19, of Crystal Lake Illinois, was killed in action Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was born Dec. 31, 1984, in Naperville, to Jack and Angel (Betacourt) Collins.

He was a 2003 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School and was a member of the soccer and swim teams. He also participated in theater and Gator Pride. He worked for several years at AMERICAN PIE in Crystal Lake. Shortly after graduation in June 2003, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Brandon of Crystal Lake; two sisters, Lauren and Devon, of Crystal Lake; his maternal grandfather, Elias Betancourt; his paternal grandparents, John and Alice Collins; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Sandra Maria (Cooley) Betancourt.
