Emma Alice Sigmund was born in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, on May 31, 1852, daughter of Johann Gottlieb and Mary Elizabeth Firor Sigmund. On January 10, 1878, she married William Landers Martin, son of Jacob and Matilda Yonson Martin. Five children were born to them, the eldest, Matilda Elizabeth, having died at the age of 17 years. The other four were Victor Sigmund, Scott Weaver, Mary Linnie and Olive Ruth Martin. Emma was my great-grandmother.

"Mrs. Emma S. Martin. Mrs. Emma Sigmund Martin, widow of Rev. W. L. Martin, died Wednesday at noon at her home in Thurmont, aged 88 years, 6 months and 3 days. She had been ill several weeks. Death was due to infirmities of age. A daughter of the late Godliep and Elizabeth Firor Sigmund, the deceased was a resident of the community all her life. She was an active member of the United Brethren Church, having attended Sunday School and church since childhood. She was for years the president of the Mite Society and taught her Sunday School Class until her recent illness. She had been very active until then. She is survived by the following children: Victor Sigmund Martin, Glendale, Calif.; Scott W. Martin, Chicago; Mrs. Maynard Freeze, Thurmont, and Mrs. W. O.
