Albert R. Hofferber 71, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooker, with the Rev. Robert Herrod officiating. Arrangements are by HensonNovak Funeral Directors of Guymon.

Mr. Hofferber was born and reared in Hooker and was a lifelong resident. After graduating from Hooker High School, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Japanese Theater from 1944-46.

Mr. Hofferber was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he held numerous offices and was the treasurer of the church's men's club. Prior to founding Al's Superburger in 1955, he was involved in trucking and farming with his father. He had also owned and operated the local Diamond Shamrock station. Active in civic affairs, Hofferber served as president of the Hooker Chamber of Commerce and was treasurer of the Texas County Chamber of Commerce. He, along with wife Aymee, had been the comanager of the Hooker Main Street Program.

He married Alice Clark, who preceded him in death. In 1969, he married Aymee Jensen Tarrant at Hooker.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lynn Marie Bragg of Wichita, Kan., and Kristie Gay Stone of Fort Sill; two sons, Timothy Hofferber of Hooker and John T. Tarrant of Mustang; a stepmother, Esther Hofferber of Hooker; six brothers, Larry Hofferber, Gerald Hofferber, Wesley Hofferber and Mike Hofferber of Hooker, Steve Hofferber of Sandy, Utah, and Leslie Hofferber of Amarillo; and six grandchildren.

An Albert Hofferber memorial has been established for the St. John's Lutheran Church Sidewalk Fund or the Hooker Main Street Program, and memorials may be made to the church office or to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306 Guymon, Okla., 73942.
