Thursday, March 27, 1958

JOHN ROBERT DICKSON, 78, pioneer and well-known citizen of the Mize Community, Toccoa, passed away this morning (Thursday) at 3:45 in a local hospital. Mr. Dickson had been in ill health for several years and had been seriously ill since Sunday.
A son of the late Mr. William Jerry Dickson and the late Mrs. Nancy Isbell Dickson, he was born Mar 18, 1880, in the Mize Community of franklin County and had lived there all of his life. Mr. Dickson was a retired farmer, was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Red Hill Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ella Pressley Dickson; 4 daughters and 3 sons, Mrs. Edna Roberts and Mrs. Rothell Price of Toccoa, Mrs. Frank Collier and Mrs. Hershel Anderson of Chicago, IL, Norman Dickson of Toccoa, George Dickson of Atlanta, and H. J. Dickson of Tulsa, OK; 2 brothers, W. P. Dickson of Toccoa and Willis Dickson of Cordele; 3 sisters, Mrs. Dock Mabry of Toccoa, Mrs. Efram Stancil of Toccoa, and Mrs. George Brown of Daytona Beach, FL. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Neal King, rev. Lester Stamey, and Rev. Robert Rudeseal officiating. The body remained at the residence until 9:30 a.m. Saturday at which time it was carried to the church to lie in state from 10 o'clock until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers were Robert Price, Arthur Campbell, David Dickson, Lloyd Hill and Harold Price.
Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, was in charge.
