Marjory Thelma Flake
July 2, 1918 ~ July 2, 2012

Marjory Thelma Kuehner Flake

Marjory passed away on July 2, 2012, on her 94th birthday, in Snowflake, AZ. She was born in Guelph, Ontario Canada, on July 2, 1918, the first of three children born to George Kuehner and Mary Beatrice Willis Kuehner; her siblings were Lyla and Donald. Her family moved to Kitchener, Ontario when she was a small girl and she spent her childhood there.

Marjory, her sister, and her mother were converted to the LDS church in 1931. She finished high school and worked at the Arrow Shirt factory in Kitchener.

Marjory met her future husband, Fost Wilson Flake in 1937, when Fost was serving as an LDS missionary in Marjory's town. A friendship blossomed between them, and Elder Flake convinced Marjory to serve a church mission as well. She served a mission in California from 1939-1941. Marjory agreed to make a visit to Fost's home in Snowflake en route back to Ontario.

The detour turned into a permanent reroute when Fost and Marjory decided to go to Salt Lake City, UT LDS temple to be married on Aug. 29, 1941. Fost and Marjory celebrated 56 years of marriage in 1997 just prior to Fost's passing on Aug. 31 1997.

Marjory lived briefly in Flagstaff and Whiteriver AZ, but her adult home was always Snowflake.

Marjory stayed at her father-in-law's home during her husband's WW II Naval service. She and Fost moved to a home south of Snowflake near Silver Creek in 1945. This was their home until 1988 when they built a home 1/4 mile away.

The family worked together in ranching and farming. Marjory worked as a homemaker and partner to her husband for their whole married life, serving for 36 years as co-owner and manager of Snowflake Meat Packing Company. Marjory and Fost served a mission in the Leeds, England Mission for the LDS church from 1978-80. They also served in the Mesa, AZ temple for many years.

Marjory was an active member of the LDS church. She served in many teaching positions, music, and leadership areas.
Nine children were born to Fost and Marjory; Jordan Dee (Jean), Marie Welch (Jack), Barry (Vernell), Lon James (deceased), Joy (deceased), Karen Packard (Bruce), Gaylan (Donna), Bonna Smith (Bill), and Rand (Dona). She is survived also by 34 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm. at Owens Livingston Mortuary in Snowflake, AZ on Friday July 6, 2012. Services will be held July 7, 2012, 10 am at the Snowflake Stake Center 9th South 2nd West with additional visitation 1 hr. before. She will be laid to rest at the R. V. "Mike" Ramsey Cemetery in Snowflake.

Her family expresses gratitude to caregivers at Webb's Assisted Care Home in Snowflake and Hospice Compassus; also, many thanks to the extended family, friends, and neighbors for the many prayers and concerns. Arrangements made by Owens Livingston Mortuary.
