The Nebraska Signal 1953:
Lewis A. Day, son of J. E. and Mary Ann Day, was born in Abingdon, Ill., November 19, 1875. He departed this life in the Thayer County Memorial Hospital in Hebron, Neb., March 24, 1953, aged 77 years 4 months and 5 days.
He came to Nebraska in 1886 and spent most of his life in Fillmore County.
In 1901 he was baptzied and has been a member of the United Brethren Church ever since. July 4, 1895, he was united in marriage to Tena L. Lenhard. To this union two children were born, one son, Jeffie E. Day, deceased, and one daughter, La Verne.
Early in life Mr. Day worked as a salesman, and continued in that occupation through most of his life. He was well known in his community as "Lew," and enjoyed his friends and always offered a cheery greeting to all around him. One of his greatest interests was his home and his loved ones.
The health of Mr. Day had been failing for several years. May 2, 1952, he suffered a stroke and became bedfast. He was given loving care by his devoted wife until three weeks prior to his death, when he was taken to the hospital.
Those left to mourn are his wife, Tenea; one daughter, La Verne, and her husband, Earl Fox; three grandchildren, Phyllis and her husband Ernest Flament, and Sheryl Lynn Fox; one great-grandchild, Carolyn Sue, all of Los Angeles, Cal; Duane Day, a grandson; also two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Effie) Dunker of Elizabeth, Col., and Mrs. Asa (Clara) Wright of Stockton, Kas.; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Effie Day of Hebron; nieces; nephews and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral service, in charge of Kritner-Ashby Funeral home was held at the United Brethren Church in Strang at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, March 29. Rev. Maude V. Mann officiated, assisted by Rev. Clifford Bahr. Ralph Reemts sang, "Beyond the Sunset," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "The Lord's Prayer." He was accompanied by his daughter, Norva. Pallbearers were Jess Messman, Albert Butler, Nate Brown, Byron Bumgarner, John Rachow and Wilson Miller.
Interment was in the Harmony Cemetery.
