Galya "Nigh" Gunderson March 23, 1933 - July 13, 2008
Galya Gunderson, age 75, of Beaverton, formerly of Cascadia, Oregon, died Sunday, July 13, of natural causes.
Galya Gunderson was born as Diane Elizabeth Swansen in Pasadena, Calif. The family moved to Klamath Falls where she was raised. She attended Southern Oregon State College before graduating from San Francisco State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Galya had a 30-year career as an elementary schoolteacher in California before her retirement. She then served as librarian and book shop manager at Bosch Baha'i School in the Santa Cruz Mountains. She moved to Cascadia in 1992, where she was an active member of the local Baha'i Faith community. Galya was the Mysticism Editor of the Planet Baha'i website, a contributing member of Millennial Mystics, and she was the author of Birds of the Heart, a book about the Baha'i Sacred Writings for young people.
Galya moved to Beaverton, Oregon in March of 2007, where she became a member of the Beaverton Baha'i Center until her death. She will be missed by her family, friends, and many members of the Bahá'í Faith community.
