Robert A. Birtcil Sr., 70, of Cleveland, Ga., formerly of Knox, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born Dec. 6, 1930, in Oil City, he was a son of Allen N. and Aldine Hall Birtcil. Mr. Birtcil worked for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Ga., for 29 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moore in Forest Park, Ga. Mr. Birtcil enjoyed golf, was an avid bowler and coached junior bowling at the Atlanta Army Depot. He had a great interest in computers. He was married for 44 years to the former Sandra A. Silves, who survives. Also surviving are seven children and their spouses: Robert A. Birtcil Jr. and Terri Birtcil and Deborah and Mike Young, all of Indianapolis, Ind., John A. and Sue Birtcil of Carrollton, Ga., Thomas L. and Kathy Birtcil of Florence, Ky., Tammy and James Sharpe of Loudon, Tenn., Timothy C. and Lora Birtcil of Cullodon, Ga., and Theodore J. and Pamela Birtcil of La Vergne, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren;!
and one great-grandchild. He also is survived by a brother, Roger D. Birtcil of Lorton, Va.; his mother-in-law, Kathryn Silves of Highland Oaks, Shippenville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Birtcil was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Birtcil. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Mark Chapel near Kossuth with the Rev. Pamela Mansfield, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mark Cemetery, Kossuth. The family suggests memorials be made to the Knox Area Volunteer Fire Department, Knox, 16232, or to the American Lung Association.
