Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Cyril J. "Cy" Kunkel, 90, a resident of Davenport will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main St., downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Post 26. Mr. Kunkel died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at ManorCare Utica Ridge in Davenport following a brief illness.

Cyril Joseph Kunkel was born June 8, 1922, in Haverhill, the son of John and Bertha (Freese) Kunkel. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Benson on June 9, 1947, in Haverhill. They were blessed to have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

In earlier years Cy had worked the family farm. He then proudly served our country during World War II, in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He started his employment career at the former Bendix Corporation in Davenport from 1951 until 1966. During this time he began assisting at the former A Z Rental Company in Davenport. When the opportunity arose he purchased the rental company and formed "Cy's Rental." He was dedicated to his rental business and stayed active until 2010.

He was a member of the Cornbelt Rental Association and the American Rental Associations; where he and Mary established many cherished friendships and acquaintances. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, and St. Anthony's Parish.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary; and children and their spouses: Patricia and Hal Mann, Michael and Susie Kunkel, Jeffrey, Kathleen, Kevin and Richard Kunkel; grandchildren: Emily Mann, Jamie (Matthew) Thompson and Brian Myhre; great grandchildren: Ethan, Alyssa and Izac Thompson; his siblings and their spouses: Urban Kunkel, Rosella (Robert) Hartwig, Esther (James) Nussbaum, and Marilyn (Al) Safford; sisters-in-law: Dolores Kunkel, Carmen Kunkel, Judy Kunkel and Dorothy Peterson; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Wilbert, Edwin, Elmer and Viola; a brother-in-law, Donald Peterson, and sisters-in-law: Coleen and Shirley. May they rest in peace.
