Clifford Earl Mapes, 82, Burlington, died on Friday morning, June 22, 2012, at his home in Burlington, Kansas.

He was born on May 16, 1930, in Moran, Kansas, to John Harvey and Evelyn Conner Mapes.

He grew up in Moran. He served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952, stationed in Germany. He had worked for the Coffey County Road and Bridge Department as a Truck Driver.

Clifford married Elizabeth Ann Mewhinney, on May 29, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Burlington in 1972.

Clifford was preceded by his parents, an infant son, a brother, Jimmy Mapes, and two sisters, Ann Vest and Rita Vest.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of the home, three daughters, Phyllis Wing of Holton, Edith Goucher and Rebecca Tuttle, both of Burlington, a sister, Mary Knavel of LaHarpe, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Clifford was cremated. Memorial graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Baker Cemetery west of Burlington.
