Alice is the daughter of Seborn Benjamin Posey, Sr. (1862-1915) and Sarah Scott. She is one of two children: Alice and Ambrose.

Alice's mother died when she and her brother were young. Her half siblings with the children born to Seborn and his second wife Candia: Clarence, Seborn Jr., Dallas, Arthur, Ida, Mattie, Willie, George, and Florence.

Alice married James L. Doss in 1904 in Alabama. Their children are Junius, Willie, John, James, and Samuel.
