My Husband's 3rd great grandfather... Rev. Aaron Ayer was a Freewill Baptist Minister. He filled pulpits in Maine and New Hampshire,and was widely known and beloved. He died October 8,1876. (His stone says 1866). His wife, Mary Olive (Cleaves) Ayer was a native of York County,Maine. Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Hanson) Cleaves and died on November 3, 1894. Together they reared three sons; George W.,who enlisted as a private in Company I,4th Massachusetts Cavalry. George died in Virginia city in the summer of 1864,the year of his enlistment; Aaron W. and Daniel C. Ayer. Daniel was a popular Grand Army man, who had a fine farm of about one hundred acres in Naples,Cumberland, Maine. Daniel was born in Brownfield,Oxford,Maine,on April 10,1847
