Mrs. Mary Jane Aguilar, age 65, of El Campo, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on Jan. 6, 1947 in Wharton, the daughter of the late Benito Lopez and Isidra Gomez Lopez.

Mrs. Aguilar was a lifelong resident of El Campo and a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church in El Campo. She married Guadalupe Aguilar Sr. in 1963 in Wharton. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Victoriano Reyes Jr., and her parents.

A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, Guadalupe Aguilar Sr. of Pasadena; daughters and son-in-law, Gracie and Gustavo Lara and Mary Ann Reyes, all of El Campo; son, Guadalupe Aguilar Jr. of San Antonio; sisters, Josie Ortiz and Alice Villarreal, both of El Campo, Sarah Gomez of Corpus Christi, and Vera Balboa of Pasadena; brothers, Guadalupe Lopez Sr. and John Gomez, both of El Campo, and Richard Gomez of Smithville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Josie Ortiz, Alice Villarreal, Sarah Gomez, Sergio Reyes, Gustavo Lara Jr., and Gabriel Lara. Honorary pallbearers were Vera Balboa and John Gomez.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
