Joan Cannon Brewer, 80, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at home July 28, 2004 surrounded by her family. Joan was born Feb. 12, 1924 to LaVon Bennion and John Kenneth Cannon in San Antonio, Texas. As a child in a military family, she lived in several places throughout the world. She attended the University of Utah, graduating with honors in 1945. During that time she made many dear friends, some of whom have continued to meet monthly for over 50 years. In 1946 she married the late Raymond Glen Brewer; later divorced. They had four children, living for many years in the Los Angeles, CA area. In 1970 Joan moved to Salt Lake City, where she enjoyed renewed friendships with family and friends. She loved to read and was especially interested in world affairs and the arts. She was very fond of her friends and neighbors in the Federal Heights Ward. Joan's greatest joy in life came from her children and grandchildren; she was devoted to them in every way. She was a woman of faith and courage, endured trials without complaint, and was impeccably gracious on every occasion. Her cheery greetings and notes of thanks will be missed by those who knew her. She is survived by her sister, Marion Hoppe (George); children, Nancy Jones (Max), John Brewer (Annie), David Brewer, and Paul Brewer (Jodi); 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her sister, Margaret; great-granddaughter, Rachel; and grandson, Ian. Funeral services held Monday, Aug. 2, at the Federal Heights Ward, 1300 East Fair-fax Rd, SLC. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
