John Cadden, a former resident of this place, was killed at Cherokee, Iowa, on Monday, by the caving in of an embankment while he was laying sewer pipe, he having gone to Cherokee about two weeks ago with the men who had the contract to lay the sewer.
Five years ago, he went to Dubuque where he was married to Miss Lizzie Kearns, a cousin of the Kearns here. His sad death occurred on the fifth anniversary of their wedding.
The remains were brought to Dubuque Monday and on Wednesday to Benton, where funeral services were held in the Catholic church by Rev. Father Bergen. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, at Dubuque; a father, John Cadden; two brothers, Thos. and Hugh and two sisters, Mrs. Meloy of this place and Mary Ann Cadden of Dubuque.
Mr. Cadden was an honest, industrious man, and was highly respected by his associates.
