BRACKIN
Gertrude Florence Brackin was born near St. Cloud, Minnesota on September 15, 1874, the daughter of Zenas and Margaret Douglass. When just a small child she came with her parents to Hudson Township, where they purchased a farm. She went to school and grew to womanhood in this vicinity.
On November 25, 1901 she was united in marriage to Benton D. Brackin in Seattle, Washington. After a few years, they moved to Max, North Dakota and within a short time, they returned to Hudson Township, where they lived on a farm near Forada. In 1927 they moved to Alexandria, where they owned considerable property. They also owned and operated their motel (known as Brackin's Cabins on Nokomis and Third Street for many years. After they retired, they spent much of their time traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benton D. Brackin on March 22, 1954. In 1958, she went to Long Beach, California and lived with their only child, a daughter, until the time of her death.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Glover, of Long Beach, California, a granddaughter, Dalphine, (Mrs. Russell Dyer) of Simi Valley, California and also three great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, Minnesota 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 1976 Rev. R. Hoeft officiating. Interment in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota
Mrs. Byron Dyer of Princeton, Minnesota sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".
