The Rev. Kennedy was born in Duplin County on July 15, 1911. He was a Free Will Baptist minister for over 70 years and pastored churches in North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Texas and Louisiana.
Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtie Mercer Kennedy; and second wife, Kathleen Everett Kennedy.
He is survived by his sons, RJ Kennedy and wife, Jerry, of Columbia, S.C., Beverly Shea Kennedy of Denham Springs, La.; daughter, Hilda Grace Mills of Ayden; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He died at age 101 years.
